Sanders Announces Russellville as Arkansas’ Capital for a Day on September 15

  
TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS COME – GREETINGS:
 
WHEREAS:  Russellville, located on Lake Dardanelle, was incorporated on June 7, 1870, and serves as the seat of Pope County;
 
WHEREAS:  The arrival of the Little Rock and Fort Smith Railroad thrust the city into a new era of growth, prompting a county-wide debate over moving the county seat from Dover—where it had been since 1841—to Russellville, which ultimately won the vote by a narrow margin of just 100 votes;
 
WHEREAS:  For decades, farming and timber harvesting were the predominant industries in Russellville, until the Ouita Coal Company came to town at the end of the 19th century;
 
WHEREAS:  With the construction of Interstate 40 in the 1960s, Russellville once again saw tremendous growth and is still a thriving city today;
 
WHEREAS:  In 1925, Russellville was selected as the site for one of four state agricultural schools, and Arkansas Polytechnic College was established, later becoming Arkansas Tech University;
 
WHEREAS:  Russellville is home to nearly a dozen divisions of Fortune 500 companies, and has a diverse manufacturing portfolio with companies producing everything from frozen foods to aircraft parts;
 
WHEREAS:  Today, residents and visitors can experience a plethora of historic and scenic stops throughout the city, including the Arkansas River Visitor Center, Confederate Mothers Memorial Park, and the River Valley Arts Center;
 
WHEREAS:  Governor Sanders’ “Capital for a Day” program highlights great cities around Arkansas like Russellville and brings senior state government officials into town to meet with their local counterparts; and
 
WHEREAS:  Russellville will serve as the twenty-third “Capital for a Day” under Governor Sanders and will momentarily serve as Arkansas’ seat of government.
 
NOW, THEREFORE, I, SARAH HUCKABEE SANDERS, Governor of the State of Arkansas, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the laws of the State of Arkansas, do hereby name Russellville, Arkansas, our Capital for a Day on September 15, 2026, and invite our senior state government officials to join me in a visit to the city.
 
IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Arkansas to be affixed this 13th day of September, in the year of our Lord 2026.
