Sanders Announces Cabot as Arkansas’ Capital for a Day on September 30

TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS COME – GREETINGS:

WHEREAS:  Cabot, located just outside of Arkansas’ capital city in the northwestern corner of Lonoke County, was incorporated on November 9, 1891;

WHEREAS:  The Cairo and Fulton Railroad passed through the area in 1873, compelling the construction of a water and fuel stop that would ultimately become known as Cabot;

WHEREAS:  In the 1930s, the Central Arkansas Milk Producers Association was formed, cementing Cabot as a thriving farming community;

WHEREAS:  In 1942, due to the opening of the Arkansas Ordnance Plant in nearby Jacksonville, Cabot saw tremendous growth as employees of the plant moved to the area;

WHEREAS:  After a tornado tore through the city in 1976, Cabot established the annual CabotFest, commemorating the city’s resilience and celebrating its rebuilding, which residents and visitors can still enjoy today;

WHEREAS:  Governor Sanders’ “Capital for a Day” program highlights great cities around Arkansas like Cabot and brings senior state government officials into town to meet with their local counterparts; and

WHEREAS:  Cabot will serve as the twenty-fourth “Capital for a Day” under Governor Sanders and will momentarily serve as Arkansas’ seat of government.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, SARAH HUCKABEE SANDERS, Governor of the State of Arkansas, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the laws of the State of Arkansas, do hereby name Cabot, Arkansas, our Capital for a Day on September 30, 2026, and invite our senior state government officials to join me in a visit to the city.
