Arkansas Named Most Pro-Life State in America for Seventh Year in a Row
ALEXANDER, Ark.— On Wednesday, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders joined Americans United for Life and the Arkansas Family Council to announce that Arkansas ranked the most pro-life state in America for the seventh year in a row, according to annual rankings released by Americans United for Life. The pro-life organization ranks all 50 states based on state laws that protect the unborn, the elderly, the disabled, and the terminally ill.
“I’m incredibly proud that Arkansas is ranked the most pro-life state in the nation for the seventh year in a row,” said Governor Sanders. “Every life is a gift from our Creator, made in His image, and is worth defending. As Governor, I will continue fighting for every Arkansan, at every stage of life, and make our state the best place to live, work, and raise a family.”
“Thanks to the spirited work of grassroots pro-lifers, Arkansas continues to lead as the most pro-life state in the nation, as it has every year under the leadership of Governor Sanders,” said Americans United for Life CEO John Mize. “National pro-life efforts are built upon the efforts at the states, and Arkansas serves as a model for all states as the fight continues after Dobbs. We are confident that Arkansas and its dedicated pro-life servants will continue to carry the torch and expand protections for life from conception to natural death.”
“Arkansas being named the ‘Most Pro-Life State’ in the U.S. by Americans United for Life for a seventh consecutive year is historic and serves as a testament to the citizens of Arkansas throughout the history of our state who have embraced a culture of life by following natural law with state law that honors our Judeo-Christian heritage and ethics,” said Arkansas Right to Life Executive Director Amber Singleton. “Arkansas Right to Life works tirelessly to advocate for the most vulnerable among us, which is an unborn child in the womb made in the image of God. Today we face challenges of the unlawful, deregulated abortion pill flooding into our state, and the irreversible harm it is doing to pregnant mothers who are often unaware of the dangers of the pill. That’s why it is so important that Arkansas Right to Life continues to provide vital and life-saving information about fetal development, abortion, alternatives to abortion, and work diligently to educate the public in making informed decisions that are beneficial for both the mom and her baby. Thanks again to Americans United for Life for again awarding Arkansas the designation that helps increase awareness of the tremendous work of pro-life Arkansans, pregnancy care centers, legislators, our Attorney General, our Governor, and many other elected state officials. Your efforts reinforce Arkansas Right to Life’s slogan, ‘Defending the Defenseless’.”
“Being named America’s most pro-life state for the seventh year in a row reflects our commitment and that of our elected officials to the sanctity of innocent human life,” said Arkansas Family Council President Jerry Cox. “Behind every law are people whose lives deserve protection: our elderly neighbors, people with disabilities, those nearing the end of life, and unborn children. Our goal is to work with Governor Sanders and the legislature to make Arkansas the safest place in America for the most vulnerable.”
Over the last 53 years, Arkansas has passed more than 65 laws to protect human life in the womb, and in 2021, the law prohibiting abortion except to save the mother’s life became effective when the U.S. Supreme Court overturned its 1973 Roe v. Wade decision in the landmark case Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Center.
Since taking office, Governor Sanders has signed several additional laws to strengthen Arkansas’ pro-life protections, including Act 973 of 2025 to prohibit abortions performed due to an unborn child’s race, Act 485 of 2025 to prohibit giving a pregnant woman abortion drugs without her consent, Act 1006 of 2025, Act 125 of 2024, and Act 622 of 2023 to provide $5 million to support women with unplanned pregnancies.
The Governor has worked to improve Arkansas’ foster care and adoption landscape, signing an Executive Order at the beginning of her administration bringing together foster care advocates from around the state to craft recommendations that her administration is now quickly implementing and adding $1 million to the foster placement budget earlier this year. For the first time since data has been collected, there are now fewer than 200 kids waiting for adoption in the entire state.
Additionally, in 2025, Governor Sanders signed the Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies Act to direct $45 million to promote maternal health, expanding access to prenatal care, creating reimbursement pathways for doulas and community health workers, and expanding coverage for remote pregnancy resources.
She has made Arkansas a national leader on education reform, childhood food insecurity, and moving Arkansans from crisis to career by uniting faith groups, nonprofits, and government agencies through the 10:33 Initiative.
Governor Sanders also established the Infants at Work policy within Arkansas state Government. The policy – originally pioneered at the Arkansas Department of Human Services and within the Governor’s Office – allows employees with children from 4 weeks to 6 months of age to bring their child to the office, pending approval from their supervisor. In October 2025, the Governor opened the program to every state department and agency where it is feasible.
